Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast is preparing to make a major move into the Indian automotive market with the launch of its new assembly plant in Tamil Nadu, India, and expected to open by the end of June 2025.
This facility is a $2 billion investment plan, with an initial $500 million earmarked for the first five years. The plant is projected to produce up to 150,000 vehicles annually.
VinFast plans to roll out models, including the VF 6 and VF 7, initially for the Indian Market. The VF 7, a compact electric SUV, comes equipped with a 75.3 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of up to 450 kilometres. Meanwhile, the VF 6 is anticipated to offer a range of approximately 400 kilometres.
VinFast’s arrival in India will place it in direct competition with Tata Motors, Mahindra, MG Motor, and Hyundai. The VF 7, in particular, will face off against established models such as the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
